Canada Day Parade
Jul. 2nd, 2009 09:58 am10,000 people saw me and my float today. I am exhausted. The Stargate Float was a big hit. We were the rallying point for all the other sci-fi groups in the parade.
It was a long day, but lots of fun. We were at the parade site by 7:30, where we started re-assembling the gate. We got it done by 9:00, which was when we were supposed to be done, but we could have taken our time. The parade was supposed to start at 10:00, but it was after 10:30 by the time it actually started moving.
We had several groups marching together under our banner: Star Trek, BSG, Firefly, Burrard Inlet Fan Fellowship, VCON, Harry Potter, etc... The costumes were interesting. I was kind of bummed that Princess Leia and the sorting hat from Harry Potter got more attention than those of us in our Stargate jackets. Greg, who runs BIFF, was coordinating, and he assigned several of us to hand out pamphlets and flyers to the crowd. I was very vocal and managed to hand out all of mine.
The parade was only about 10 blocks, but we went so slow that it lasted about an hour. Afterwards, we had lots of help to take down the gate and stow it back in the van, and we all went to lunch together
