I woke up this morning feeling like a large truck had run me over and then backed up and did it again. Getting old is a pain in the ass. And what physical activity did I do to attain this state of agony, you ask. Well, I stood in one place for three hours holding a camera. Yes, truly a feat of athletic prowess.

Anyway, I did have an interesting evening. I had heard rumblings all week of a Supernatural night shoot that would take place in New Westminister. Usually, the night shoots that I hear about are in North Vancouver, which is too far for me, but New West is only 40 minutes away. The shoot was supposedly from 8:00 to 1:00 am, but I headed up about 8:00, knowing that it would take them awhile to get set up. I got turned around and it ended up taking longer than it should to find the circus, but, finally, I was parked and gave [livejournal.com profile] xterm a call to tell her I was there. She came down and we picked up coffee from Starbuck’s before making our way up to the shooting area.   Possible spoilers behind cut.

It was in a short alley-like street, just one block off a main street. It was blocked off by police cars on both ends and there were fans standing at both ends. [livejournal.com profile] xterm and I headed up to the next street up the hill and found a great vantage point directly above the shoot behind a building on that street. There were already a few people there, including a group of Italian fangirls, who seemed to be having a great time and a professional pap that I recognized from the Leo Awards. [livejournal.com profile] xterm was afraid I’d get everybody in trouble by using my camera with the flash, so we fooled with it until we knew it was safe. She took a lovely picture of my breasts, just for the hell of it.

Every time I see a shoot, I’m astonished and aggravated by the time that it takes for anything to get done. A large group of people were standing around, seemingly doing nothing, for an hour before we saw any actual shooting. The Impala arrived and people proceeded to mill around it. Then, stand-ins came out to do rehearsals and marks. A blonde girl was shot first, walking down the sidewalk and talking into a cell phone. Then, after more standing around, wetting the street, wiping the Impala, and a tall stand-in doing marks, Jared arrived. They did two shots of him with the blonde girl, talking and walking with her, then going forward and bending down to see something on the sidewalk. So, 30 seconds on film took about two and a half hours to film.

At that point, they broke down that set, moving all the lights to the middle of the street. They moved in some fake trees and a silver compact car. It took forever, of course, so I decided to change positions and move to the end of the ally. There was a group of Australian fangirls there. They were the type of fans that have every episode and line memorized and consider Jared and Jensen close personal friends. I used to find Stargate fans like that amusing and entertaining; the SPN fangirls just seem annoying. Is it just me being bitchy, or are they batshit crazy?

The word was that Jared was going to be filming a fight scene, but it was after midnight and I felt like I should head back across the border and home. I have to gird my strength for the SPN con next weekend.

Great pics :). I left you after I finished my coffee, when did Jared show up?

It wasn't long after you left - maybe 10 minutes? I almost dropped my camera when I saw him, even though I'd been expecting him, after the tall stand-in had done the marks. I had to agree with one of the Italian girls, who moaned "No Jensen!"

Sounds like a lot of fun! btw, the twins at the Leos have a DIY show on HGTV: Jonathan and Drew Scott.

They were pretty hot, but I don't think I can get myself to sit through a DIY show, even for them.

Yeah, me neither. I like For Rent and House Hunters but saw them in a commercial for their show.
